Wetlands Discovery Walk
The Wetlands Discovery Walk is the self-guided side of Boneo Discovery Park, five minutes from Rosebud on the Mornington Peninsula. Meet the dinosaurs, lose yourself in the hedge maze, challenge someone to a giant game, then slow right down on the boardwalks through the wetlands. No session times and no rush: stay as long as you like.
What's included
Self-guided entry to the dinosaurs and sand sculptures, the mazes and giant games, and 1.3 km of boardwalks through the wetlands.
Dinosaurs and sand sculptures
Life-size dinosaur statues, animatronic dinosaurs and giant dinosaurs sculpted in sand by Sand Sculpting Australia. Get up close for the photo everyone will want. The sculptures sit in a dedicated sand sculpting zone, so come and see them before they disappear.
Hedge maze, mazes and giant games
Get lost in the hedge maze, then race to find the way out before everyone else. Allow about 20 minutes to twist and turn your way to the tower, with a view across the whole park. Little explorers can take on the smaller mazes in the Games Garden at their own pace.
When you're done, settle in for a round of giant chess, snakes and ladders, connect four or noughts and crosses, all supersized and ready to play. Grab a spot on the lawn and make an afternoon of it.
Wetland boardwalks
Follow 1.3 km of boardwalks as they wind through native tea-tree and out over the water. It's the quiet side of the park, where the only noise is birdsong and the odd frog chorus after rain. Look out for swans, pelicans, herons and spoonbills on the lakes, and keep your eyes peeled for skinks soaking up the sun.
Boneo Discovery Park sits right alongside Tootgarook Swamp, the largest freshwater wetland left in the Port Phillip and Western Port region, with close to 320 hectares still intact. More than 240 native plant species grow there, over 100 bird species rely on it, and threatened species like the Australasian Bittern and the Swamp Skink still live in it.
Who it suits
Families, groups and school excursions. Little explorers can take on the smaller mazes in the Games Garden at their own pace, while everyone else races through the hedge maze. The boardwalks are the quiet side of the park, for anyone who wants to slow down.
Groups of 10 or more can combine the Wetlands Discovery Walk with Laser Skirmish or Rock 'n' Rope and a round of Mini Golf. See Parties and Schools.
